Planning

A board with room for four cards

Longer note · updated October 2026

A short, visible list of side-work tasks is easier to keep than a long one. Four cards a week is a good starting limit for many people with a full-time job.

Why four

It's enough for meaningful progress and few enough to finish. You can raise it later if four turns out to be easy.

Give every card a day

"Edit guide — Thursday evening" gets done. "Edit guide" floats around all week.

Make it visible

A real corkboard, a whiteboard or a single note on your phone's lock screen. Somewhere you'll see it without opening an app.

Clear it weekly

On Sunday, take down finished cards and choose next week's. Anything unfinished competes for a space like any new task.
