When a new job arrives mid-week

Longer note · updated October 2026

New requests rarely arrive at a convenient moment. A simple check helps you answer without overloading the week.

Look at the board

Is there a free space this week? If yes, the job can take it. If not, something has to move, or the new job waits.

Offer next week

"I can start on Monday and deliver by Thursday" is a perfectly good answer. Most clients prefer a reliable date to a rushed job.

Don't swap rest for work

If the only way to fit the job is to give up sleep or a rest evening, it doesn't really fit.

Urgent jobs

If a client genuinely needs something today, it's fine to say you can't. Urgent work at short notice is hard to combine with a full-time job.
